This is not coffee and it does not behave like coffee. One level teaspoon holds roughly 3 to 5 grams of powder, which is somewhere between 2,970 mg and 4,950 mg of caffeine. The maximum recommended intake for an adult is 400 mg across the whole day, from all sources. A teaspoon is seven to twelve times that in one go.
People have been seriously harmed, and killed, by measuring pure caffeine powder with kitchen spoons. We sell this because it has legitimate uses and because people buying it in bulk know what they are doing. We are not going to pretend the small packs carry no risk.

How much powder is how much caffeine
At the assay on the technical dossier, one gram of this powder is a little under one gram of caffeine. That makes the arithmetic simple and the margin for error very small.

The UK Food Standards Agency figures are 200 mg maximum in a single serving and 400 mg maximum per day for adults, counting everything — coffee, tea, cola, energy drinks and this. During pregnancy or breastfeeding the daily figure is 200 mg, and this product is not suitable at all.

Anhydrous, synthetic, and why both words matter
Anhydrous means without water. Caffeine naturally crystallises with water molecules attached; the anhydrous form has had them driven off, which is what makes it a free-flowing crystalline powder that can be weighed accurately and stored for years without clumping.
Synthetic means it is built in a reactor rather than extracted from coffee beans or tea leaves. The dossier for this material sets out the full synthesis route, from cyanoacetic acid through to the finished caffeine, with two separate purification stages at the end.
Some sellers charge a premium for "natural" caffeine. Here is the honest position.
Caffeine is a single molecule. C8H10N4O2, molecular weight 194.2. The caffeine in a coffee bean and the caffeine in this bag are the same substance, atom for atom, and no analytical method can tell a pure sample of one from a pure sample of the other.
What genuinely differs is what comes with it. A green coffee or guarana extract carries other plant compounds and is typically only 10–20% caffeine by weight, so you cannot dose it precisely. This is 100% caffeine to a pharmacopoeia standard, which means you can. If you want the plant compounds, buy the extract. If you want a known quantity of caffeine, buy this.
No Authorised Claims Does Not Mean No Research
You will notice this page tells you nothing about what caffeine does. That is not because nothing is known — caffeine is the most widely consumed and most heavily studied stimulant on earth, isolated in 1819. It is because the claims that were put forward for it were not authorised.

Caffeine is an unusual case. Claims for it were assessed and given favourable scientific opinions, and then were not carried into law — partly out of concern about encouraging caffeine consumption. So unlike most ingredients on our site, caffeine did go through the process. It simply did not come out the other side with a usable claim.

What it does not cover
Those heavy metal figures are specification limits, not test results. They are the ceiling the material is produced to, not measurements from the bag you receive. That is a real difference and we are not going to blur it — on our NMN we publish actual measured figures from an independent laboratory, and we are not pretending this is the same thing.
The dossier itself notes that surveillance testing means not every parameter is tested on every batch. The allergen declarations are the manufacturer's documented risk assessment rather than analysis of each allergen, which is why this page states no declared allergens rather than making a "free from" claim.

The technical dossier carries two certifications that matter if you are formulating for athletes and that most caffeine listings never mention:
Nandrolone status — certified that the product has not come into contact with nandrolone or any of its precursors at any stage.
IOC and WADA status — certified that the product has not come into contact with any substance banned by the International Olympic Committee or WADA.
This is a supplier certification on the raw material, not batch-by-batch testing of finished goods, and it is not a substitute for a programme like Informed Sport if your athletes are tested. It is still more than you will get from most suppliers at this price.

Where is it made?
The material is manufactured in China by chemical synthesis and held in stock at our unit in Southend-on-Sea. We despatch from Essex, which is not the same as it being made here, and we would rather say so plainly.
Does it dissolve in water?
It is sparingly soluble in cold water and freely soluble in boiling water. In a cold drink it will take some stirring and may not fully dissolve; in anything hot it goes straight in. It is noticeably bitter.
