Cosmetic, for external use only
This is a skincare product applied to the face. It is not a food supplement and not a medicine, it is not to be swallowed, and it does not treat or prevent any skin condition. It gives no protection from the sun.
Patch-test first, and stop if it stings
Apply a little to the inner forearm and wait 24 hours before using it on the face. Vitamin C can tingle briefly on application; persistent stinging, redness or itching means stop. Avoid the eye area and broken or sunburnt skin. If you are using prescription skincare, ask your pharmacist before adding a vitamin C serum.
What this serum does, in cosmetic terms
Skincare claims have their own rules. A cosmetic can describe what it does to the appearance and feel of the skin, and must be able to support it; it cannot claim to treat, heal, remove or prevent anything, and it should not borrow the language of medicine. So the description below is deliberately about how skin looks and feels, which is what a serum is for.
Brighter, more even-looking tone
Vitamin C is the best-known brightening ingredient in skincare. Used daily over several weeks it is associated with a fresher, more luminous look and a more even-looking complexion. It does not bleach, lighten or remove pigmentation, and we do not say it does.
Hydration you can feel
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant: it binds water and holds it at the skin surface. Skin that is well hydrated looks smoother and plumper, and fine lines caused by dryness look softer. That is a hydration effect, not a change to the skin's structure.
Conditioned, comfortable skin
Vitamin E is a classic conditioning ingredient that helps the serum feel soft on application and leaves skin feeling supple rather than tight.
Why the two work well together
Vitamin C serums can feel drying on some skins; pairing with hyaluronic acid keeps the surface hydrated while you use it. Neither ingredient changes what the other does; they simply cover both brightness and hydration in one step.
Claims you will not see here
Removes dark spots, freckle removal, anti-ageing, boosts collagen, repairs skin, heals acne marks, protects from UV. Some are medical claims a cosmetic cannot make; others we cannot substantiate for this product. If a serum listing promises them, ask what evidence sits behind it.
The ingredients
| Ingredient | Role in the serum |
|---|---|
| Vitamin C | Brightening: a more even, radiant-looking tone with regular use |
| Hyaluronic acid | Humectant: surface hydration, smoother and plumper appearance |
| Vitamin E | Conditioning: softness and comfort on the skin |
| Base and preservatives | As listed in full on the bottle in INCI order |
The full ingredient list in INCI order is printed on the bottle and box, as the UK Cosmetics Regulation requires, and is reproduced on this page in the specification below. If you have a known allergy to any cosmetic ingredient, check that list before use.
How to use
1. Cleanse
Wash the face and pat dry. Serum goes on before anything heavier.
2. Apply
Two to four drops pressed gently into the face and neck. Avoid the eyes.
3. Moisturise, then protect
Follow with moisturiser. In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen; the serum gives no sun protection.
Once a day is enough for most people; morning is the traditional slot for vitamin C. If your skin is new to active ingredients, start every other day for the first two weeks.
Fitting it into a routine
| If you also use | Suggested timing | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Retinol / retinal | Vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night | Both are actives; splitting them is gentler |
| AHA / BHA exfoliants | Alternate nights, vitamin C in the morning | Layering acids and vitamin C can sting |
| Niacinamide | Either time, together is fine | Commonly combined; our 5-in-1 serum pairs them |
| Sunscreen | Every morning, last step | Vitamin C is not a sunscreen; SPF is |
| Moisturiser | After the serum, every time | Seals the hydration in |

Vitamin C serum: frequently asked questions
What does this vitamin C serum do?
It is a lightweight cosmetic serum for the face. Vitamin C is used in skincare for a brighter, more even-looking skin tone and to help the skin look fresher; hyaluronic acid draws water to the surface for hydration and a smoother, plumper look; vitamin E conditions the skin. Those are cosmetic effects on the appearance and feel of the skin.
Will it remove dark spots or freckles?
No cosmetic can claim to remove pigmentation, and this one does not. Used regularly, vitamin C serums are associated with a more even-looking tone and a brighter appearance. Freckles and pigmentation that change or concern you should be looked at by a pharmacist or GP.
How do I use it?
Morning or evening on clean, dry skin: two to four drops pressed into the face and neck, followed by moisturiser. In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen; the serum itself gives no sun protection. Patch-test on the inner forearm for 24 hours before first use.
Can I use it with retinol or exfoliating acids?
Many people alternate: vitamin C in the morning, retinol or acids at night. Using all of them at once can be too much for some skins. If you get stinging or redness, drop back to the serum on its own for a week.
Why has my serum gone orange?
Vitamin C oxidises when exposed to air and light. A pale to light-yellow serum is normal; deep orange or brown means it has oxidised and should be replaced. Keep the lid tight and the bottle out of direct light.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It is formulated for general use, but vitamin C can tingle on sensitive or compromised skin. Patch-test first, start with every other day, and stop if irritation persists. Not for use on broken skin.
Is it 30ml or 50ml?
30ml. Please ignore any older listing text stating 50ml.
Is this a supplement?
No. It is a cosmetic for external use on the face only. Do not swallow. Our oral skin-nutrient drops are a separate product in the same collection.
