Why this page makes no health claims
In Great Britain a supplement seller may only use health claims that appear on the official nutrition and health claims register. L-arginine has none. That is not the same as "no research": it is one of the most studied amino acids there is, first isolated in 1886. Claims were submitted for it and assessed by the European regulator, and none was authorised.

What is L-arginine HCl?
L-arginine is one of the 20 amino acids the body uses to build protein. It is classed as conditionally essential: the body makes it, and it is also supplied by protein foods such as turkey, chicken, fish, dairy, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, walnuts and chickpeas. Wu's 2009 review of amino acid nutrition gives the background.
L-arginine hydrochloride (HCl) is L-arginine bound to hydrochloric acid to make a stable, free-flowing crystalline salt. It is the form with its own USP monograph and the form most capsules actually contain, whatever the front of the label says.

Neither form is "better". Free base gives more L-arginine per gram; the hydrochloride is the stable, near-neutral form that is kinder to handle and encapsulate. What matters is that the label tells you which one you are getting.

Understanding the label
750mg of salt, 620mg of L-arginine
L-arginine HCl has a molecular weight of 210.66; L-arginine itself is 174.20. Divide one by the other and the salt is 82.7% L-arginine. So 750mg of L-arginine HCl provides about 620mg of L-arginine, and two capsules provide about 1,240mg. The chloride figure on our certificate, 16.53%, sits inside the USP window of 16.5 to 17.1% and confirms it is the true hydrochloride.
How we know it is the L-form
Amino acids come in mirror-image L and D forms. The body uses the L-form. A polarimeter tells them apart: L-arginine HCl rotates light by +21.4 to +23.6 degrees. Ours measured +22.3°. A cheaper DL mixture would read close to zero. The certificate also reports no other amino acids detectable.
What "no fillers" means here
Tablets need binders to hold together, and many capsule makers add magnesium stearate or silica so powder runs faster through high-speed machines. We fill at our own pace in our own unit, so the capsule holds L-arginine HCl and nothing else. The only other ingredient is the HPMC shell.

What is in each capsule?
Each capsule contains 750mg of L-arginine hydrochloride, which provides about 620mg of L-arginine, inside a plant-based HPMC shell. There are no fillers, binders, flow agents, colours or flavourings.
Why does it say L-arginine hydrochloride and not just L-arginine?
Because that is what it is. L-arginine HCl is the stable salt form used in the USP pharmacopoeia monograph. The salt is 82.7% L-arginine by weight, so 750mg of L-arginine HCl provides about 620mg of L-arginine. Many labels quote the salt weight as if it were all L-arginine; we give both figures.
What does USP grade mean?
The raw material is tested against the United States Pharmacopeia monograph for L-arginine hydrochloride: identity by infrared spectroscopy, assay between 98.5% and 101.5%, optical rotation, chloride content, and limits for impurities, sulphate, iron and heavy metals. The supplier certificate for our material reports an assay of 99.2%.
How do I know it is the L-form and not a cheaper DL mix?
The certificate reports a specific optical rotation of +22.3 degrees, inside the USP window of +21.4 to +23.6. Only the natural L-form rotates light in that range, and the test for other amino acids found none detectable.
How many capsules should I take a day?
Take 1 to 2 capsules a day with water, preferably with food. Two capsules provide 1,500mg of L-arginine HCl, about 1,240mg of L-arginine. Do not exceed the stated amount.
Is L-arginine a nitric oxide supplement?
L-arginine is often sold under that description, but no such health claim is authorised in Great Britain, so we do not describe it that way. We sell it as an amino acid at a declared amount and purity, and make no claims about what it does.
Are there any authorised health claims for L-arginine?
No. Claims submitted for L-arginine were assessed by the European regulator and none was authorised, and the Great Britain register has none either. It is a food supplement, not a medicine.
