Quick answer
Nicotinamide riboside powder is a crystalline form of vitamin B3 sold as nicotinamide riboside chloride. Charge Products supplies it at 99.16% purity by HPLC against a 99% minimum specification, in pack sizes from 10g to 1kg, priced from £9.99. It is an authorised GB novel food (NOVEL-96) for use in food supplements at a maximum of 300 mg per day for adults and 230 mg per day for pregnant and lactating women.
The serving stated on our label is 300 mg once daily — which is also the authorised maximum, so it must be weighed accurately and never rounded up. Because 300 mg cannot be measured with a spoon, digital milligram scales are required and no scoop is supplied.

Nicotinamide riboside chloride is a crystalline form of vitamin B3 and one of the two NAD precursors that dominate the UK longevity supplement market. Unlike its better-known counterpart NMN, nicotinamide riboside has completed the GB novel food process: it holds authorisation NOVEL-96, and it can be sold as a food supplement in Great Britain within a defined maximum daily intake. That regulatory position is the single most important difference between the two, and it is why this page can be specific about what is permitted where an NMN page cannot.
Charge Products has supplied nicotinamide riboside powder to UK customers since well before most high-street brands carried it. The material is tested at 99.16% by HPLC against a 99% minimum specification, and arrives as a fine white to off-white crystalline powder. There is nothing else in the pouch — no maltodextrin, no rice flour, no silicon dioxide flow agent. What you weigh out is what you take.
Powder suits two very different buyers. The first is an experienced supplement user who wants to set their own serving, avoid paying for capsule shells, and buy at a lower cost per gram than any capsule format can offer. The second is a business — a supplement manufacturer, capsule filler or white-label brand — buying the raw material to formulate a finished product. Both are served from the same UK stock, and both get the same batch documentation on request.
What is nicotinamide riboside powder?
Nicotinamide riboside is a pyridine nucleoside — a nicotinamide group joined to a ribose sugar. In supplement form it is almost always sold as the chloride salt, because the free base is an unstable hygroscopic oil that cannot be crystallised or packed. The chloride salt is a stable crystalline solid, and it is the chloride salt that holds the GB novel food authorisation. That is why the legally required ingredient designation is nicotinamide riboside chloride rather than simply "nicotinamide riboside".
The distinction matters commercially as well as legally. Nicotinamide riboside chloride has a molecular weight of 290.70 g/mol against 255.25 g/mol for the nicotinamide riboside cation itself. That means 100 mg of the chloride salt provides about 88 mg of nicotinamide riboside. Some sellers quote the chloride weight and some quote the base weight without saying which; where a figure looks unusually generous, that ratio is often the reason. Every figure on this page refers to the chloride salt as weighed.
In the body, nicotinamide riboside is a precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+. The first human pharmacokinetic trial, published in Nature Communications in 2016, gave twelve healthy adults single doses of 100, 300 and 1,000 mg and found dose-dependent increases in the blood NAD+ metabolome (Trammell et al., Nature Communications, 2016). Those references are given for scientific context only and are not health claims. No health claim is authorised in Great Britain for nicotinamide riboside, and none is made here.
UK legal status and the 300 mg daily maximum
Do not exceed 300 mg per day
GB novel food authorisation NOVEL-96 permits nicotinamide riboside chloride in food supplements at a maximum of 300 mg per day for the general adult population and 230 mg per day for pregnant and lactating women. These are legal maximum intakes, not suggestions. Clinical trials have used higher amounts, and overseas products are sold at higher strengths, but neither changes what is permitted in Great Britain.
Not for anyone under 18. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your GP or midwife before use. If you take prescribed medication or manage a diagnosed condition, consult your GP first.
Nicotinamide riboside chloride is authorised in England, Scotland and Wales, and is listed on the FSA register of regulated products (FSA authorisation NOVEL-96). The authorisation originally carried a five-year data protection period restricting the GB market to the original applicant; that period ended on 20 February 2025, which is why the ingredient has become more widely available in the UK since then.
One condition is worth reading carefully if you are formulating. The authorisation covers food supplements as defined in Directive 2002/46/EC — that is, products in a dose form taken in measured small unit quantities. It does not cover general food use, drinks or bakery. If you are buying this powder to put into a finished product, the finished product must be a food supplement, must declare the ingredient as nicotinamide riboside chloride, and must stay within the 300 mg per day maximum.
Health claims: the honest position
There are no authorised GB health claims for nicotinamide riboside, for NAD+, or for NAD precursors as a class. We do not make any, and we would treat any seller who does as worth a second look.
That absence is not evidence the ingredient is unstudied. Nicotinamide riboside has been through human clinical trials and has completed the full GB novel food process, which is a substantial regulatory dossier in its own right. Authorising a health claim is a separate process entirely — it needs its own application, its own body of evidence, and it is slow and expensive enough that almost nobody funds one for an ingredient they cannot patent.

5–10 yrs typical time to authorise a single health claim |

So this page sells on specification instead: what the material is, what it tested at, what batch it came from, what the law permits you to take, and what it costs. Those are things we can evidence. If you want to know what the research says, the peer-reviewed references at the foot of this page are there to read for yourself.
First-time buyer guide
Buy the 10g pouch first. It gives you 33 servings at 300 mg — enough to confirm you like the taste, that it mixes the way you expect, and that you can weigh it reliably before committing to a larger pack.
Buy milligram scales. This is not optional. Kitchen scales read in whole grams and will show 0 g for a correct serving. You need scales that read to 0.001 g. They are inexpensive and they are the difference between a compliant serving and a guess.
Start at 100–150 mg for the first week. There is no requirement to begin at the maximum. Starting lower lets you judge tolerance before increasing.
If weighing sounds like a chore, buy capsules instead. Powder is cheaper per gram and more flexible, but a pre-weighed capsule you actually take every day beats a pouch that stays in the cupboard.

Understanding the chemistry
Why the chloride salt?
Free nicotinamide riboside was described by the chemists who first isolated it as a hygroscopic oil that could not be crystallised. Pairing it with chloride produces a stable crystalline solid that can be weighed, packed and stored. Every commercial NR supplement worldwide uses a salt form for this reason.
Why there is no flush
The skin flushing associated with vitamin B3 comes from nicotinic acid, a different form entirely. Nicotinamide riboside metabolises to nicotinamide, which does not trigger the prostaglandin response responsible for flushing. This is the practical reason many people move to NR from nicotinic acid.
Alpha and beta forms
Nicotinamide riboside exists as two anomers about the glycosidic bond. Only the beta form is biologically relevant, and early chemical syntheses produced roughly a 1:4 alpha to beta mixture. The GB novel food specification requires material to be predominantly beta, and our assay reflects that.

Batch testing and documentation
Every batch arrives with a manufacturer's certificate of analysis covering purity by HPLC, identification by TLC, particle size, loss on drying, residue on ignition, heavy metals by ICP-MS and a full microbiological panel. The specification is the same for every batch; recent batches have tested at 99.16% purity.
To be precise about what that document is: it is a manufacturer's batch certificate, not independent third-party analysis, and the heavy metal results are reported as conforming to specification rather than as numeric values. We would rather say that plainly than let it be read as something it is not. The certificate is available to any customer on request, quoting the batch number printed on your pouch.
Pack size guide
| Pack | Servings at 300 mg | Roughly | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10g | 33 | 1 month | First-time buyers — start here |
| 25g | 83 | under 3 months | Second purchase once settled |
| 50g | 166 | 5–6 months | Regular daily use |
| 100g | 333 | 11 months | Best value for one person |

| 1kg | 3,333 | — | Manufacturing and encapsulation |
A word of realism about the larger sizes. At a 300 mg daily serving, a 1kg pouch holds around nine years of personal supply — far longer than the shelf life. The 500g and 1kg sizes are trade quantities, intended for supplement manufacturers, capsule fillers and white-label brands. For an individual buyer, 100g is normally the largest size that makes practical sense.

How to measure and take it
- Zero your scales. Place a small dish on milligram scales reading to 0.001 g and press tare.
- Weigh 300 mg. Add powder until the display reads 0.300 g. This is the maximum permitted daily intake as well as the stated serving, so do not estimate, do not use a teaspoon and do not round up.
- Mix into cold liquid. Stir into around 200ml of water, juice or squash until fully dissolved. Never hot drinks.
- Drink straight away. It is less stable in solution than as dry powder, so do not batch it in advance.
- Reseal fully. Press the foil closed along its whole width — the powder draws moisture from the air.
Most people take it in the morning. There is no requirement to take it with food. If you are new to nicotinamide riboside, start at 100–150 mg for the first week and increase only if you are comfortable. Never exceed 300 mg in a day.
Storage and stability
Nicotinamide riboside chloride is one of the more demanding powders to store well, and it is worth being straight about that. It is hygroscopic, meaning it pulls moisture out of the air. An open pouch will clump on its own within days in a humid kitchen, and clumping makes accurate weighing harder. It is also heat-sensitive, decomposing rapidly above 130°C with a degradation rate that roughly doubles for every 10°C rise even well below that threshold.
Practically, that means: keep the pouch sealed, keep it in a cupboard rather than on a worktop, keep it away from the kettle, hob, oven and sunlit windowsills, and do not decant it into a clear jar for display. A cool dry cupboard is genuinely all it needs, but it does need that.
Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture in the sealed original packaging. Because we pack in-house rather than buying in finished pouches, we fill against demand instead of holding deep stock. Check the best-before date on any supplier's NAD precursor, ours included — it is the single most useful thing on the label.

Frequently asked questions
How much nicotinamide riboside powder can I take per day in the UK?
The GB novel food authorisation NOVEL-96 sets a maximum of 300 mg of nicotinamide riboside chloride per day for the general adult population, and 230 mg per day for pregnant and lactating women. The Charge Products label states a 300 mg serving, which is the authorised maximum, so weigh it accurately and never round up.
Do I need scales to measure nicotinamide riboside powder?
Yes. A 300 mg serving is far too small to measure with a spoon. Digital milligram scales reading to 0.001 g are required. No scoop is supplied because no scoop is accurate enough at this weight.
Is nicotinamide riboside legal to sell in the UK?
Yes. Nicotinamide riboside chloride is an authorised novel food in England, Scotland and Wales under authorisation NOVEL-96, for use in food supplements. The data protection period held by the original applicant ended on 20 February 2025, so the authorisation is now open to all operators.
What is the purity of this nicotinamide riboside powder?
Purity is tested by HPLC on every batch against a 99% minimum specification, and recent batches have tested at 99.16%. The GB novel food specification requires a minimum of 90%, so this material sits well above the regulatory floor. The figure comes from the manufacturer's batch certificate of analysis, which is available on request.
Can nicotinamide riboside carry health claims?
No. There are no authorised GB health claims for nicotinamide riboside, NAD+ or NAD precursors, and we make none. The ingredient is authorised as a novel food, which is a safety and permitted-use decision, not an approval of any benefit. Anyone advertising NR with benefit claims is doing so outside the rules.
What is the difference between nicotinamide riboside powder and capsules?
Powder lets you set your own serving between 50 mg and the 300 mg daily maximum and costs less per gram, but requires milligram scales. Capsules are pre-weighed and portable but fix the serving size and add a capsule shell.
How should nicotinamide riboside powder be stored?
Cool, dry and sealed. Nicotinamide riboside chloride is hygroscopic and will clump if left open. It also degrades faster as temperature rises, with the degradation rate roughly doubling for every 10°C increase, so keep it away from kettles, hobs and sunlit windowsills.
Which pack size should I buy first?
Start with the 10g pouch. It gives 33 servings at 300 mg, enough to confirm the taste, mixing and weighing suit you before committing. For settled daily use, 100g is the best value size for one person. The 500g and 1kg sizes are trade quantities.
How fast is UK delivery?
Orders placed before 3:30pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same working day from Southend-on-Sea. Free UK delivery applies on all orders over £10.
Can I return nicotinamide riboside powder?
Unopened pouches can be returned within 30 days. Opened food pouches cannot be resold and are non-returnable for food safety reasons. If a pouch arrives damaged, contact sales@chargeproducts.co.uk and it will be replaced.
What does nicotinamide riboside powder taste like?
Mildly acidic and slightly sour, similar to a weak citric note. It is unflavoured and unsweetened. Most people mix it into juice or squash rather than plain water.
Do you supply nicotinamide riboside powder wholesale in the UK?
Yes. Charge Products supplies nicotinamide riboside chloride powder in bulk to UK supplement manufacturers, capsule fillers, white-label brands and contract packers. Contact the trade desk for pricing above 1kg.
What is the minimum order quantity for trade supply?
Standard retail pack sizes run to 1kg with no minimum. Trade pricing begins at 1kg. Larger volumes are quoted on request.
Can I get a certificate of analysis for trade orders?
Yes. A batch certificate of analysis is available to trade customers on request, quoting the batch number printed on the pouch.
Is this powder suitable for encapsulation or tabletting?
It is suitable for encapsulation. Because nicotinamide riboside chloride is hygroscopic and heat-sensitive, formulators should control humidity during filling and avoid processes that exceed 130°C. Any finished food supplement must stay within the 300 mg per day maximum.
Who should not take nicotinamide riboside powder?
Anyone under 18. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are subject to a lower 230 mg daily maximum and should speak to a GP or midwife first. Anyone taking prescribed medication or managing a diagnosed condition should consult their GP before use.
